Bengaluru: Large and Medium Industries Minister
M.B. Patil, who is also the in-charge minister for Vijayapura, announced on
Friday that Coca-Cola has come forward to rejuvenate the historic Mamadapura
Lake in Babaleshwara Taluk of Vijayapura District at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
Senior company officials, Himanshu Priyadarshi and Mukund Trivedi, met with the
minister to discuss the initiative.
Patil explained that the lake, constructed during the Adil Shahi period in the
16th century, is one of the largest in the state. As afforestation in memory of
Siddeshwara Swameeji is being taken up on 1,654 acres surrounding the lake, the
location is expected to become a major tourist attraction in the district once
the project is completed, Patil opined.
The project includes the construction of a Bandhara and the development of an
800-meter tank bund. Additional proposed works include beautifying and
strengthening the bund, installing fencing and handrails, creating footpaths,
and setting up a children's play area, the minister informed.
