David Johnson, renowned for his blistering pace and cricketing prowess, tragically passed away at the age of 52 in Bengaluru. Reports indicate that he took his own life by jumping from the fourth floor of a private apartment, citing depression as the cause.

Born on October 16, 1971, in Arasikere, David Johnson began his cricketing journey with the Karnataka Under-19 team, quickly establishing himself with a remarkable debut that saw him claim 13 wickets in just two matches. Despite fierce competition, particularly from the likes of Javagal Srinath, Johnson made his First-Class debut at the age of 21 against Goa, where he impressed with two crucial wickets. His career highlights included a standout performance against Kerala in the 1995-96 season, where he achieved his only ten-wicket haul with figures of 6 for 63 and 4 for 89.

Notably, Johnson's prowess with the ball earned him a spot in the Indian Board President's XI against the touring Australians, where he dismissed top-order batsmen like Ricky Ponting and Michael Slater. His impressive performances culminated in a call-up to the Indian national team, making his Test debut against Australia at Kotla following an injury to Srinath.

Despite his initial promise and formidable pace, Johnson grappled with consistency and fitness issues, which curtailed his international opportunities. Nevertheless, he remained a stalwart for Karnataka in domestic cricket, contributing significantly to the team's bowling lineup over the years. Post-retirement from playing, Johnson transitioned into coaching and mentoring young cricketers, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the cricketing community.

The tragic loss of David Johnson has deeply impacted the cricketing fraternity, reflecting on his achievements and contributions both on and off the field.
