Hubballi: A 30-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances near a lake in Lohia Nagar on Saturday evening within the Old Hubballi police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Akash Matapathi, son of Shekharayya Matapathi, who is the president of the Hubballi Autorickshaw Drivers Association. Shekharayya Matapathi is also well-known for his activism in the area.

The Old Hubballi police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem examination. It is not yet clear whether this was a case of murder or if there were other circumstances involved in the death.

The police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of death and are awaiting the postmortem report for further clarity.
