JDS MLC, borther of Prajwal Revanna's Suraj Revanna has been taken into custody following accusations of sexual assault against a male party worker. This arrest comes on the heels of a wider scandal involving multiple sexual abuse allegations against his brother Prajwal.
The arrest stems from a complaint lodged by a 27-year-old JD(S) party member, who claims Suraj Revanna sexually assaulted him at a farmhouse in Hassan district, Karnataka, on June 16. However, Suraj vehemently denies these allegations, countering that the accuser filed a false report after he refused to pay a ₹5 crore extortion demand.
Adding another layer to this complex situation, Suraj's associate, Shivkumar, filed a separate police complaint just a day prior. He alleges that the same party worker who accused Suraj had approached him earlier in the month, demanding ₹5 crore and threatening to file sexual abuse charges against Suraj if the money wasn't paid. Shivkumar claims he had initially tried to help the accuser find employment by connecting him with Suraj, but the situation escalated into blackmail when job prospects fell through.
This incident unfolds against the backdrop of a larger scandal involving Suraj's younger brother, former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna. Prajwal, grandson of JD(S) patriarch and ex-Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was recently placed in judicial custody. His political career took a hit when he failed to retain his parliamentary seat in Hassan during the recent elections.
The controversy surrounding Prajwal erupted when explicit videos allegedly featuring him began circulating in Hassan just before the Lok Sabha polls on April 26. These revelations led to his suspension from the JD(S) party.
The scandal has also implicated their father, HD Revanna, a former MLA and Public Works Department Minister. He faces charges of kidnapping a woman who accused both him and Prajwal of rape. HD Revanna was granted bail in the kidnapping case on May 14, followed by bail in the sexual assault case.
As the political drama unfolds, the BJP has distanced itself from the Revanna family and the ongoing investigation. S Prakash, the party's state unit chief, stated, "As a party, we have no connection to the videos nor any comments to offer on the matter."
