Shiv Sena (UBT) Quashes Rumours Of Going Back To The NDA

Amidst swirling speculations, the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena firmly quashed rumors of a potential reunion with the NDA, affirming their commitment to the INDIA alliance. With the Shiv Sena (UBT) securing nine seats, alongside a notable victory for the Eknath Shinde faction with seven seats, the party stands as Maharashtra's second-largest political force, equaled only by the BJP.

In a pointed retort on social media, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi dismissed conjectures perpetuated by certain sections of the media, alleging bias towards the BJP. She rebuked predictions foreseeing a resounding BJP victory post-elections, quipping with a popular meme reference, "Moye Moye. Ye na hoye (this won't happen). You can roye roye (you can cry)."

The intricate political landscape of Maharashtra witnessed significant twists and turns during the 2019 general elections. While the BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena clinched a collective victory with 41 Lok Sabha seats, subsequent discord over the chief ministerial post led to a rupture in their alliance. Uddhav Thackeray's subsequent alliance with the NCP paved the way for his chief ministership.

However, recent years saw further upheaval when Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, purportedly influenced by BJP overtures, splintered from the party, realigning with the NDA. This rift resulted in a change of guard, with Mr. Shinde assuming the chief minister's mantle and Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections ushered in a new chapter in Maharashtra's political narrative, characterized by the emergence of two Shiv Sena factions and two NCP factions, each supported by divergent political alliances. The fractious electoral landscape underscored a battle for legitimacy and survival, with the Shinde and Ajit Pawar factions gaining recognition and crucial party symbols.

Despite initial optimism within the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the Sena-BJP-NCP coalition, the BJP faced a notable setback, dwindling from 23 to nine seats. Conversely, the Congress-Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)-NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) coalition seized momentum, securing 30 seats out of the state's 48 constituencies. The Congress emerged as the leading force, clinching 13 seats, followed by Team Uddhav with nine, and Sharad Pawar's NCP with eight victories.
