Ashok Leyland, India’s second-largest medium and heavy commercial vehicle manufacturer, has announced a significant achievement: securing the largest single fully-built bus order in its history. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has placed an order valued at ₹982 crore.
The Chennai-based company will supply 2,104 units of its Viking passenger buses, with deliveries set to commence next month. These buses will adhere to the latest CMVR standards, featuring an AIS-153 compliant body, and will be equipped with the advanced iGEN6 BS VI OBD II technology, including a 197-HP H-Series engine and rear air suspension.
Manufacturing will take place at Ashok Leyland’s dedicated bus body plants in Alwar, Rajasthan, and Chennai, Tamil Nadu. "This new order underscores our commitment to producing highly efficient and technologically advanced products, driving the growth of public transportation in the country," stated Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO of Ashok Leyland.
With this substantial order, Ashok Leyland's presence in the MSRTC fleet will be significant. MSRTC, one of the largest state transport undertakings in India, operates over 15,000 buses. This order further solidifies Ashok Leyland’s standing in both the Indian and global bus markets.
