Sydney police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman discovered on a boat at Tunks Park, Cammeray. Authorities were alerted at 9 p.m. last night by a friend who had concerns for their welfare.
The deceased, identified as Peter Ray and Lixen Wang, both in their early 60s, were found on a bed inside their 14-metre yacht. Initial assessments revealed no visible injuries or clear cause of death, according to NSW Police Detective Inspector Siobhan Munro.
Fire and Rescue were called to the scene due to a gas-like odor detected on the yacht. Police are exploring all possibilities, including the potential link between the gas-like smell and the deaths. “At this point, we do not know what caused their deaths. We are keeping all options open as the investigation proceeds,” Munro said.
The investigation has been categorized as suspicious due to the unexplained circumstances of their deaths. Although there is no evidence of domestic violence, police are considering all potential angles. Forensic teams have taken several items for examination, including two vehicles parked near the yacht, which belong to the deceased.
The yacht, which was owned by Ray, was used by the couple for their stay on Monday night. Their absence became a concern on Wednesday when they failed to return.
Both Ray and Wang were Sydney residents. The case will be reviewed by the coroner, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
