Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced his resignation following the disappointing performance of his Open VLD party in the recent legislative elections. Speaking on Sunday evening, De Croo acknowledged the party's defeat, stating, "For us, it's a particularly difficult evening, we have lost. Starting tomorrow, I will be a resigning Prime Minister."

De Croo also extended his congratulations to the election winners. In the federal elections, Open VLD garnered only 5.9 percent of the votes, while they managed to secure 8.1 percent in the regional elections.

According to initial projections released by the Belgian Ministry of the Interior, the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) is set to remain the largest parliamentary group with 24 seats. The Reformist Movement (MR) is close behind with 22 seats, having achieved significant victories in Brussels and Wallonia, securing 26.1 percent and 29.8 percent of the votes, respectively.

Belgian voters participated in a comprehensive election day, casting ballots for a new federal parliament, regional parliaments, and members of the European Parliament.
