The Karnataka BJP has accused the Congress government of engaging in vendetta politics after a non-bailable warrant was issued against former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in a POCSO case. The warrant, issued by a special court in Bengaluru on Thursday, relates to allegations of sexual harassment of a minor. The BJP contends that this action is a form of retaliation for the defamation case involving Rahul Gandhi.
Former BJP national General Secretary CT Ravi criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, questioning his commitment to avoiding such tactics. "Is this not vendetta politics? CM Siddaramaiah claimed he wouldn’t engage in such tactics, but now he is doing exactly that. The people of the state will hold him accountable for this," Ravi asserted.
Ravi also pointed out a four-month delay in the government's response to the case and mentioned a statement by Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara, who had previously dismissed the case's validity. He suggested that the sudden issuance of the warrant was politically motivated.
BJP MLC and party chief whip N Ravikumar echoed Ravi's sentiments, calling the case baseless and politically driven. He noted that the complainant has a record of filing multiple cases against officials and politicians. "The Congress, after four months of inaction, has suddenly sprung into action. Obtaining a non-bailable arrest warrant against Yediyurappa is highly condemnable," remarked BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.
The BJP insists that the case against Yediyurappa is part of a political conspiracy orchestrated by the Congress in response to Rahul Gandhi's defamation trial. Despite their objections, the party has vowed to comply with the court order while continuing to challenge the motivations behind it.
