Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is set to make a significant investment in Karnataka. After retiring from cricket, Muralitharan has begun his second innings in the business world.

He plans to open a cold beverage production unit called 'Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries' in Badanaguppe, Chamarajanagar district, a border district of Karnataka. He has also signed an agreement with the Karnataka government for this purpose.

Additionally, Muralitharan is interested in investing in Dharwad district, with a total investment of 1400 crore rupees planned for Karnataka.

Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, shared information about this agreement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. Currently, factory establishment work is underway in Badanaguppe, Chamarajanagar district. MB Patil recently held a meeting in Bangalore with Muralitharan and his company officials. In a post after this meeting, Patil stated that Muttiah Muralitharan wishes to expand his business in Karnataka. Muralitharan, trying to grow his business in his motherland, has chosen their state for this purpose.

Investment in 2 Districts

Apart from Chamarajanagar, Muralitharan is keen on increasing capital investment in Dharwad district as well. Currently, a factory worth 1000 crores is being established in Chamarajanagar. With the investment in Dharwad, the total capital inflow to the state will be 1400 crore rupees, according to MB Patil.

Starting from January

According to media reports, 46 acres of land have already been allocated for cold beverage production, and factory establishment work is ongoing on that land. The factory is expected to commence operations by January 2025.
