Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in as a Member of Parliament during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha on Monday. Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab administered the oath to him, followed by other newly elected MPs.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the media ahead of the first parliamentary sitting, emphasizing the principles of inclusivity and consensus in governance. "We are committed to unity and consensus-building to serve the nation and fulfill the aspirations of our people," he stated.
Highlighting the significance of consensus in governance, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the trust and support given by the citizens. "The mandate reflects approval of the government's policies and intentions by the people. While majority is crucial to govern, consensus is pivotal for national progress," he affirmed.
On June 26, the election of the Lok Sabha Speaker will take place, followed by President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint session of Parliament on June 27.
This marks the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha following the recent general elections, where the NDA secured 293 seats and the INDIA bloc obtained 234 seats, with the Congress holding 100 seats. A meeting for newly elected Congress MPs is scheduled at 10 am today at the CPP office in Parliament.
