Delhi police have apprehended a man accused of scamming multiple individuals by impersonating a woman on social media platforms. The fraudster allegedly swindled one victim out of lakhs of rupees under the guise of offering online services.
The case, registered at Police Station Cyber, Shahdara, invokes Sections 419 and 420 of the IPC. According to the complaint, the victim received a message on Telegram from someone claiming to be "Shruti Sharma," promoting adult chatting and online services. Initially complying, the victim transferred money for these services. However, the accused allegedly manipulated the victim emotionally, resulting in a total transfer of Rs. 12.7 lakhs into the accused's bank accounts.
A specialized team was assembled to investigate the case, gathering evidence, scrutinizing bank transactions, and conducting surveillance to track down the suspect. Utilizing technical means, the police arrested Deepak Saini on June 7. During interrogation, Saini confessed to the fraudulent activities, revealing he had previously worked in Pharma companies before quitting two years ago and relying on his wife's income.
Saini admitted to being addicted to adult chatting and online gambling, participating in platforms like Dream11 and Pari-match. He allegedly exploited his involvement in adult groups on Telegram to perpetrate the scam, posing as "Shruti Sharma" to lure victims into transferring significant sums of money.
The investigation continues as police delve deeper into the case to ensure justice for the victims impacted by Saini's deceitful activities.
