New Delhi: Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, has announced that the Central Government is taking steps to monitor wheat prices in the country to ensure stability.
In a meeting of the Cabinet Committee chaired by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister in Delhi, serious discussions were held on the matter and information was gathered on ways to maintain the stability of food prices.
The meeting, which was held to review the prices of essential commodities, specifically discussed the stock and prices of wheat.
As of June 18, 2024, 266 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured. Minister Joshi informed that the wheat stock was 262 LMT at the same time in 2023.
A comprehensive discussion was held on wheat stocks and prices, and it was informed that there is an additional stock of 4 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this time compared to 2023. It was said that after meeting the requirement of PDS and other welfare schemes, about 184 LMT of wheat stock will be available.
Minister Pralhad Joshi advised the meeting to closely monitor wheat prices and formulate appropriate policies and take measures to ensure price stability for consumers in the country.
Meeting of Minister of State and Senior Officials:
Pralhad Joshi also held a separate meeting with the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and senior officials of the Ministry.
Chairing the meeting, the Minister discussed various activities of the Ministry. He reviewed the functioning of the Ministry and its offices and directed them to further improve efficiency.
