In a distressing incident that has shaken the fitness community, 54-year-old Kawaljit Singh Bagga lost his life while exercising at a gym in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, in central Maharashtra. The unfortunate event, which occurred on Saturday morning, was captured on video and has since circulated on various social media platforms.
The footage reveals a poignant sequence of events. Bagga, identifiable by his black turban, is seen participating in warm-up exercises alongside other gym-goers. As the session progresses, he visibly struggles, eventually stepping aside from the group. Moments later, he collapses to the floor. Despite the immediate response from fellow exercisers, their efforts to revive him proved futile.
This incident adds to a growing list of similar tragedies, highlighting an alarming trend of cardiac events in fitness centers across India. The surge has sparked concern among health professionals and exercise enthusiasts alike. Experts point to a combination of factors contributing to this trend, including high-intensity workout regimens, undiagnosed health issues, and a lack of proper precautionary measures.
The gravity of the situation was underscored in May when health authorities issued a cautionary statement directed at gym patrons, particularly those in their mid-30s to 40s. The advisory stressed the importance of comprehensive medical assessments prior to embarking on any new exercise program. This guidance followed a series of heart-related fatalities in India, including four deaths—three young adults and one minor—occurring within a single 24-hour span in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
