Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have apprehended Mihir Shah, the prime accused in a recent hit-and-run incident in Pune's Worli area. The 24-year-old was caught in Shahapur, Thane district, after evading authorities for approximately 48 hours.

Mihir, son of Rajesh Shah, a deputy leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction in Palghar district, is set to face legal proceedings in a Magistrate's court on Wednesday.

The charges against Mihir are extensive, falling under various sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act. These include culpable homicide, rash driving, causing grievous hurt, and attempting to conceal evidence. Additionally, a look-out circular (LOC) was issued to prevent his escape through any international exit points.

Earlier, police arrested Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, and the family's driver, Rajendra Singh Bidawat. While Rajesh was initially remanded to judicial custody, he has since been granted bail. Bidawat remains in police custody.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning near Atria Mall, when a BMW, allegedly driven by Mihir, collided with a two-wheeler carrying Pradik and Kaveri Nakhwa, a couple from the local fishing community. The couple was en route to Sassoon Dock to purchase fish stock. Tragically, Kaveri was dragged for about 100 meters by the car, while Pradik escaped with minor injuries after leaping from the vehicle.

Following the collision, the accused reportedly drove to Kalanagar in Bandra, where the driver was dropped off before the car was abandoned. The case has drawn significant attention due to its tragic nature and the political connections of the accused's family.
