Congress Leaders Criticize Modi Government Over Jalpaiguri Train Mishap

Shocked by the tragic Kanchanjunga train accident in Jalpaiguri, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi have expressed their distress over the incident, which resulted in 8 fatalities and left over two dozen injured. The leaders criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what they termed the "utter mismanagement of the Railway Ministry."

In a social media post on X, Kharge conveyed his deep sorrow over the collision. "Extremely distressed by the Kanchanjunga Express train accident in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Many lives have been lost and several people injured," he wrote. He described the scenes from the accident as painful and extended solidarity and condolences to the victims, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Kharge emphasized the tragedy as a stark reminder of ongoing issues, vowing that the Congress party would persist in holding the Modi government accountable for what he called "criminal abandonment of the Indian Railways." He criticized the government’s handling of the Railway Ministry over the past decade, accusing it of converting the ministry into a platform for "camera-driven" self-promotion rather than focusing on safety and management.

Rahul Gandhi also expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling it extremely sad. He attributed the rise in train accidents to mismanagement and negligence by the government. "Today's accident is another example of this reality," Gandhi said in his post on X. He pledged that as a responsible opposition, the Congress party would continue to question this blatant negligence and hold the Modi government accountable for these accidents.

Both leaders underscored their commitment to ensuring that the government takes responsibility for improving the safety and management of the Indian Railways.
