At least 24 people have died and hundreds are feared trapped after three landslides hit Kerala's Wayanad district amid heavy rain. Multiple agencies, including NDRF, are involved in rescue operations in the hilly areas near Meppadi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, assuring all help from the central government. Modi also directed BJP workers to assist in rescue efforts. The Prime Minister's Office announced compensation for victims' families.
Chief Minister Vijayan stated that all agencies have joined the rescue operation, with state ministers coordinating efforts. Two Air Force helicopters are expected to join soon. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, NDRF, and Kannur Defence Security Corps are participating in the rescue mission.
Former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences and urged UDF workers to assist the administration. UDF MLA T Siddique mentioned plans to airlift people from affected areas.
The state Health Department has opened a control room with emergency helpline numbers. The situation remains critical as rescue efforts continue in the affected regions.
