Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, succeeding Rahul Dravid. The transition comes after India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, which marked Dravid's final assignment in the role. Gambhir, a former India opener and two-time World Cup winner, emerged as the top candidate following interviews conducted by the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced Gambhir's appointment, praising his understanding of modern cricket and vast experience. Shah expressed confidence in Gambhir's ability to lead Indian cricket forward, citing his clear vision for the team and diverse career roles.

Gambhir's recent accomplishments include mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title in 2024. His first assignment as India's head coach will be the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

The appointment comes as part of a broader change in the Indian cricket setup, with new selectors also being chosen. VVS Laxman will oversee the team during a tour to Zimbabwe, while Gambhir is set to take charge from the Sri Lanka series, marking the beginning of a new era in Indian cricket.
