Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today said that a proposal had been submitted to the Chief Minister to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district.
"A delegation of Ramanagara district MLAs and district in charge minister led by me submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today. This initiative was taken keeping in mind the development and future of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Kanakapura and Harohalli taluks," he said while speaking to reporters after submitting the proposal to the CM at Vidhana Soudha.
"The people of Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi are all Bangaloreans originally. Ramanagara and Bengaluru rural districts were carved out from Bengaluru urban for administrative ease," he said.
"Ramanagara needs to be renamed keeping Ramanagara as the district headquarters. We have submitted a proposal regarding this. Renaming would help bring industries to the district and the land valuation would go up as well. Bengaluru has scope to grow only towards Ramanagara and Tumkur as it has Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on other sides.
Asked which taluks would come under Bengaluru South district, he said it was only a renaming exercise and there won't be any change in the geographical boundaries of the district.
Surveillance to check garbage dumping
Asked about the increase in Dengue cases, he said, "The cases of random dumping of garbage is on the rise. People are throwing garbage on the road without giving it to the garbage trucks. Construction waste is also being dumped on the roads. We will keep a surveillance on this. We have instructed officials to take strict action on this. BBMP is working closely with the Health department to contain the disease," he said.
Asked about leakage of audio tape in Valmiki Development Corporation, he said, "I don't know about it. The minister has resigned voluntarily and the investigation is on. The Chairman of the Corporation and the minister are not aware of the irregularities."
Asked about not getting approval for medical college in Ramanagara and Kanakapura, he said, "It is our wish to bring medical college to the district. It was included in the Budget also. I am told that lack of shortage of staff is the reason, we will look into it."
