Hubballi: In a significant breakthrough, the Hubballi-Dharwad Police have intensified their crackdown on the sale and distribution of ganja in the twin cities. Their ongoing efforts against the peddling, selling, and consumption of banned substances have yielded substantial results.
Acting on a credible tip-off, the police arrested Omprakash Veeramram, a resident of Barmer district in Rajasthan, who had been living in the city's Keshwapur area for the past six months. During a search of his residence, authorities seized 888 grams of ganja. The operation took an unexpected turn when the police discovered ₹96.50 lakh in cash, along with an array of suspicious items including 30 ATM cards from various banks, 36 checkbooks from different banks, 4 passbooks, 9 PAN cards,, a fake Aadhaar card, 7 assorted rubber stamps, and 6 stamping machines
In a press conference, Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar revealed that the suspect had sourced the ganja from Ashok Kumar in Rajasthan. The police are currently investigating how Veeramram obtained the fake Aadhaar card and are scrutinizing the source of the seized cash. Commissioner Kumar added that the Income Tax Department has been notified about the cash seizure and will be looking into the matter.
"We believe this individual could be part of a larger network," Commissioner Kumar stated. "Our team will investigate the case from all angles and gather more information once we obtain custody of the accused from the court."
