Hubballi: North Karnataka's first vaser liposuction procedure was performed at Sampige Plastic Surgery Centre on Wednesday. Vaser liposuction is a body contouring procedure that uses ultrasound energy to remove fat cells and refine the body's figure.
A 35-year-old Tibetan national residing in Switzerland underwent this surgery at the Sampige Plastic Surgery Centre located on Gokul Road.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, plastic and cosmetic surgeon Dr. S.S. Shirol stated that this was the first time a vaser liposuction procedure had been conducted in North Karnataka. He explained that this advanced procedure offers more precision compared to traditional liposuction, potentially resulting in less pain and faster recovery times. Dr. Shirol added that the patient from Switzerland was able to return home on the same day following the procedure.
Dr. Shirol also mentioned that he is scheduled to perform this procedure on a UK national, who is a dentist, in the first week of August. He noted that due to increased awareness of plastic surgery, particularly cosmetic procedures, more people are opting for these surgeries. Interestingly, foreign nationals from developed countries are visiting India for cosmetic procedures.
According to Dr. Shirol, at least one foreign national undergoes surgery at his centre regularly, as the procedures are significantly less expensive compared to their home countries. He added that local residents are also becoming more aware of cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Shirol highlighted that people are familiar with common cosmetic surgeries including gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction), breast lift and reduction surgeries, liposuction, and hymenoplasty. His centre performs these surgeries frequently.
He cautioned the public to be vigilant when choosing professionals for plastic or cosmetic surgery, as many fall prey to unqualified practitioners and risk their lives. Dr. Shirol advised that one should opt for a surgeon who is a representative of the Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
