Tragedy struck in the Narela Industrial Area of Delhi early Saturday morning as a fire erupted and subsequently triggered a blast in a food processing unit, resulting in the death of three workers and injuring six others, according to the Delhi Police.
The distress call reporting the fire at Shayam Kripa Foods Private Ltd, a facility specializing in processing dry moong dal, came in at 3:35 am, as per authorities.
The intensity of the blaze quickly engulfed the factory, trapping several workers inside, stated officials.
In response, fourteen fire tenders were promptly dispatched to the scene, with firefighting efforts continuing into the morning hours, confirmed a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official around 8:30 am.
Nine individuals were successfully rescued from the premises and promptly transported to SHRC Hospital in Narela. Tragically, three of them, identified as Shyam (24), Ram Singh (30), and Beerpal (42), succumbed to their injuries, while the others are currently undergoing treatment, as per police sources.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a gas leak in one of the pipelines supplying gas to the burners utilized for roasting moong dal. The ensuing flames led to the overheating of a compressor, culminating in the fatal blast, the officer elaborated.
Authorities are in the process of registering a case under relevant sections of the law and commencing a thorough investigation into the incident.
