Dominant Iga
Swiatek cemented her clay court legacy, storming to her third consecutive
French Open title on Saturday. The Polish world No. 1 dispatched Jasmine
Paolini of Italy in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), showcasing her unparalleled
prowess on the Parisian clay.
This victory
marks Swiatek's fifth Grand Slam title overall, all coming within the last two
years. Fresh off celebrating her 23rd
birthday, she joins an elite group of women in the Open era - Monica Seles
(1990-1992) and Justine Henin (2005-2007) - who have achieved the feat of
winning three consecutive French Open titles.
Despite a
brief scare in the first set where she was broken early, Swiatek quickly
shifted gears. She rattled off an
impressive ten consecutive games, leaving Paolini with little room for
resistance. The Italian did manage to hold serve in the second set, but Swiatek
remained unfazed, ultimately sealing the victory with a powerful serve.
Swiatek's
dominance on clay is undeniable. This
win further solidifies her position as the queen of the red surface, and leaves
fans eager to see what further heights she can reach.
