HUBBALLI - Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar visited KIMS Hospital today to inquire about the health condition of Keshwapur police staff who suffered injuries while preventing a notorious criminal from escaping custody.

Farhan Shaikh, a Hyderabad-based criminal with 15 cases against him including murder, dacoity, robbery, and other heinous offenses, was brought to the city by Keshwapur police on Thursday night. During interrogation, the accused confessed to receiving assistance from locals to execute a recent theft at a jewelry store in Keshwapur.

The incident took a violent turn when police took Shaikh to Gamangatti, where his alleged accomplices were staying. In an attempt to escape, Shaikh assaulted the police staff. He struck Police Constables (PCs) Sujatha and Mahesh, causing injuries to their hands and legs.

In response to the assault, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Kavita Madyal fired two warning shots into the air. When these failed to subdue the suspect, she fired a third round, striking Shaikh in the leg.

Investigations reveal that Shaikh had planned thefts at three locations: one in Hubballi, another in Vijayapura, and a third in Bagalkot.

The arrest of Shaikh marks a significant breakthrough in the Keshwapur jewelry theft case.

Local law enforcement officials commend the quick action and bravery of PSI Kavita Madyal in preventing the escape of a dangerous criminal and protecting her fellow officers.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to apprehend Shaikh's accomplices and uncover more details about the planned thefts in Vijayapura and Bagalkot.

The injured police staff and the suspect are currently receiving treatment at KIMS Hospital. Their conditions are being closely monitored, with Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar personally overseeing the welfare of the injured officers.
