HUBBALLI - In a dramatic turn of events, police in Hubballi have apprehended a key suspect in the Keshwapur jewelry theft case following a violent confrontation early yesterday morning.
Farhan Sheikh, a native of Hyderabad and known interstate offender, was taken into custody yesterday. Sheikh has a history of serious crimes including murder, dacoity, and robbery cases across multiple cities including Hyderabad, Gulbarga, Ahmednagar, Surat, and Mumbai.
The arrest took a dangerous turn around 6:30 AM near Gamana Gatti Road, Tarihal Cross, where police were searching for other accused who had assisted Sheikh. During the operation, Sheikh allegedly assaulted two police staff members, injuring Woman Police Constable (WPC) Sujatha and Police Constable (PC) Mahesh of Keshwapur, in an attempt to escape.
In response to the assault, Woman Police Sub-Inspector (WPSI) Kavitha Madyal fired two rounds from her service weapon. One shot was fired into the air as a warning, while the second was directed at Sheikh, successfully subduing him.
Following the confrontation, both the suspect and the injured police staff were shifted to KIMS Hospital for medical treatment. The extent of their injuries and current conditions have not been disclosed.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the Keshwapur jewelry theft case. Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
