The bypolls conducted on July 10 across seven states have resulted in a significant victory for the opposition INDIA bloc, which secured 10 out of 13 contested assembly seats. The BJP managed to clinch only two seats, while an independent candidate claimed one seat in Bihar.
In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) demonstrated its dominance by sweeping all four seats with substantial margins. Notably, in Maniktala, TMC's Supti Pandey outperformed BJP's Kayan Chaubey by over 62,000 votes. The party also secured victories in Bagda, Ranaghat Dakshin, and Raiganj constituencies, with margins ranging from 33,000 to 50,000 votes.
Himachal Pradesh saw the Congress party winning two out of three seats. In a notable development, Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, emerged victorious in Dehra, defeating her BJP opponent by nearly 9,400 votes. The Congress also claimed the Nalagarh seat, while the BJP managed to secure Hamirpur by a narrow margin of about 1,500 votes.
Punjab witnessed a triumph for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Jalandhar West, where its candidate Mohinder Bhagat won by a margin exceeding 37,000 votes in a closely contested three-way race.
Uttarakhand brought more success for the Congress, with the party clinching both the Badrinath and Manglaur assembly seats. While the Manglaur victory was narrow, with a margin of just 400 votes, Badrinath saw a more comfortable win with a lead of over 5,000 votes.
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP's Kamlesh Shah emerged victorious in the Amarwara (ST) seat after a nail-biting contest, ultimately securing a win by 3,252 votes.
Tamil Nadu's Vikravandi constituency witnessed a landslide victory for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Anniyur Siva, who won by an impressive margin of 67,757 votes in a field of 20 candidates.
These bypolls, held in West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, have reshaped the political landscape, potentially influencing strategies for upcoming elections.
